Moving Blog Back to Worpress.com from Self-Hosted Site
-
I own the domain, thelittledabbler.com at use WordPress.org to write my blog. I want to switch back to thelittledabbler.wordpress.com because self-hosting just isn’t for me. I already moved my content (via exporting, then importing) and set up thelittledabbler.wordpress.com to look how I want it.
Now what I need is to redirect traffic from thelitteldabbler.com to thelittledabbler.wordpress.com. How do I do that? I have links all over the internet that lead to thelittledabbler.com, and I want those links to redirect viewers to thelittledabbler.wordpress.com so I don’t lose those viewers. Is there any way to do this? I plan to get rid of thelittledabbler.com.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I actually think I’ve figured it out and successfully have transferred my blog and redirected my domain to point at thelittledabbler.wordpress.com. If someone could check this to make sure it works on another viewer’s end, that would be great!

How do I treansfer my stats from thelittledabbler.com to thelittledabbler.worpress.com?
Also, how do I transfer the entire media library? Some of my posts are now not showing the pictures and I have to go in and re-add them.

Hi Libby!
After looking into your account, I found that you currently have the site redirect set to your WordPress.org site hosted by Bluehost. So, when I go to thelittledabbler.wordpress.com I see your WordPress.org site. Also, it looks like your nameservers are still pointing to BlueHost.
So what you can do is set your nameservers back to WordPress.com by going to your registrar (Bluehost):
- NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
- NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
- NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
Then, purchase the Domain Mapping upgrade and remove the Site Redirect upgrade.
Once that is done, set the domain: thelittledabller.com as the primary domain in your My Domains page.
Then, reply back and I can transfer over your stats and followers!
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Hello Grace,
I actually had it all set up and working with the redirect to thelittledabbler.wordpress.com. However, when I was viewing my blog, I noticed that WordPress.com now places ads in my posts and that I would have to pay $30 a year to not have those ads. Well, my self-hosting isn’t much more than that, so I’m just going to stick to self-hosting for now. I’d really love to use a free platform, but there is no way I am willing to subject my readers to intrusive ads. I’m very disappointed to find out WordPress is doing that. I will stick with self-hosting for now. Thank you for looking into it, though.

Hi there,
At WordPress.com we provide hosting for free for all of our users, and in order to provide this service for free we sometimes need to place ads.
Happy Blogging!
