Moving blog to private domain
-
A question or two (or five) about moving my blog from a free WP blog to my semi-newly registered domain. First, do I want to just pay WP for the domain mapping, or should I launch my own hosted blog on GoDaddy or one of the other hosting places? If I do go for my own hosting solution, I understand the transfer process, but do all the URLs from the old site get changed? If someone uses an old URL do they get redirected to the new site? Do I just put up a “We’ve Moved” sign on the old blog? I guess I’m just trying to make sure that all the old content, current viewers, and their bookmarks all will lead them to the new site.
Thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Domain mapping for wp.com blogs would just change the url seen.
You cannot redirect your .com blog to your self hosted one so if you do you will have to put up a we moved sign.
If you move your posts over they will not redirect to your new location. So if you delete them, they will 404.
If you move your posts and don’t delete them you could get tagged for duplicate content from the search engines.
So if you are going to move over either keep your old posts, or delete them if you can change the old links to them.

dreamsburned,
You can redirect a wp.com to a wp.org blog
