As the title, really. I’m moving my blog to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. Can I host the one I currently have set up at wordpress.com without deleting?

I don’t know what you mean. You purchase a domain and domain mapping. Domain mapping is a 302 temporary redirect (“temporary” because we must pay to renew every year). The result is that there will be a seamless redirection of all visitors from the URLs to the posts in the wordpress.com root blog to the URLs to the posts in the new wordpress.org blog. If you do not purchase domain mapping then all those URLs (links) will be broken.
It will take about 48 – 72 hours for the redirection to propagate throughout the internet. While this is taking place you either publish a post in the wordpress.com root blog that is being domain mapped telling your readers to change their bookmarks to the new URL or you post that in a text widget and avoid doing anything else in the wordpress.com root blog.
After the change has taken place your new blog will have a PageRank of zero and it will take abourt 4 – 6 months, all things being equal to recover it.
For a short while you will have the wordpress.com root blog running. Then you will change the visibility on that wordpress.com root blog to private.Because if you don’t do that then you will be creating duplicate content and that can result in penalties form Google http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66359

Just re-read my question and it was a rather tired one – doesn’t make sense at all – apologies.
Your reply is actually useful, though, cheers!
