Moving Blog to WP.org is PAINFUL

I have followed the moving guide to a tee. The problem is with WP.com export code. It only seems to support export files through July and there is an internal error message in the export file itself. 24/7 support here is laughable since I have written to them 3x. How can I get the last 4 months of blog posts easily exported to my new WP.org site? This is so frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is the error message you’re getting? And have you tried using the feed to get your posts? That sometimes works when all else fails.

Also, have you looked in your ISP email spam filter? Sometimes wordpress emails get caught there.

  • @ladylitigator your tickets were all sent less than 24h ago. Support staff sometimes need time to get to everyone.

You might be running into HTML error issues with the export file since your main blog page has 166 errors. Your second page ( http://ladylitigator.wordpress.com/page/2/ ) has 175. A good deal of these seem to be in the text widgets. WordPress blogs are document type XHTML and a some of the code you are using is HTML only (produces errors when in a XHTML document). Note that it is highly unlikely there are that many individual errors on the pages. Errors in the HTML can cascade and produce error further down in the markup.

For example, you are using the non-XHTML compliant break tag < br > (without the spaces when you need to be using the self-closing XHTML compliant version <br />

First off, go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and click “save changes.”

Next open each page on your blog, switch to the HTML tab, then back to the visual tab, and then click “update post.” WordPress should automatically correct any HTML issues in the posts for you.

Next you need to edit each of your text widgets and take out the old HTML style break tags and put in the XHTML compliant (note the space between the “r” and the “/” .

Sacred Path – you are the most en lightened response from WP and GoDaddy. I’ll try it and see if it works. Thanks

Sacred Path – I did everything you said above and still didn’t work. My posts for Sept. thru Nov. are not exporting. AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

OK my suggestion above was based on the wrong blog then since you had not given us a link to it.

You do not know if the posts are in the export file but are not being imported to the new blog, or if they are missing from the export file.

You need to make a copy of the export file, open the copy in a plain text editor, and then do a search/find for the title of the posts you think are missing. If the titles and posts are there, then the issue is on the importing end in which case you need to be asking over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ . If the posts aren’t in the export file, then you need to contact staff here to see if they can help you out: http://en.support.wordpress.COM/support/ .
