Moving comments from page to post

  Hello, we recently changed a “page” to a “post” so we can display it nicely on our front page. Unfortunately, we had almost 100 valuable comments on that “page” and would know if it would be possible to move all of those comments to the equivalent “post” we made.

  HI Guillaume,

  I’m sorry but comments submitted actually get tied into the content they were commenting. If each user commented on the page, there’s no way to move it to a new post. Since you want the content to appear in that Featured Slider, you’re definitely right to create the new post.

  However, I see that you’ve already “removed” the content from the old page. What I’d recommend for your SEO is to actually keep all that previous content there, but leave the message at the top which points to your new post.

  Then just make sure the page is hidden from any menus and the like. This way any searches that lead to your comments will still be given strong context, just in case any one winds up on the old page.

  Double-posting content isn’t recommended for SEO purposes, only because search engines have a hard time determining what page is the original. In that solution, it wouldn’t really hurt users if they winded up on either the old page or the new post, so the impact on SEO is negligible for that reason but stronger because of the comments.
