Moving Content to a wordpress.org site
-
I tried exporting my content to my computer so that I could import it into my new wordpress.org site but only 12 posts out of 141 transferred. Why? How do I go about transferring all of my data over to my new site? How do I go about exporting all of my data to my computer?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good morning –
When you unzipped the file were there multiples listed? Or just one file?
My suggestion is to create a new export and try the process over again.

My message just came back to me as undeliverable so I’ll try this again. You may have already received my reply but I’m gonna send it again just in case. Yes, there were two XML files and I exported/imported both of them. I also tried to export and import them again and it still only had a few of my posts I’m up to 22 posts now out of 141 which is better than before. It was only 12 posts, I believe. So if that’s not working, is there another way to export all of my content? I’d hate to think that I’m gonna lose all of that work that I put into it.

Try importing the files again, but this don’t make a new export.
WordPress will skip over duplicates, and if there’s any missed content to bring in, it should catch it on a second try from the same files.
-
I already tried that. Each item listed said “already exists” next to it. One xml is 4.2 mb and the other is 3 mb. Isn’t that quite small? It seems to me like it’s not exporting everything. And the things that is exporting are totally random. There’s a couple posts from 2016 and then a couple from 2018
-
That’s actually pretty big for an export file, it’s all just text. :)
Would you please verify the URL of the site you’re exporting from?
-
Oh ok. And I have 64 mb on the import side so it’s not that. The URL is happyinkdesigns.wordpress.com
-
Ok, the import files do contain all of the posts, pages, and comments from that site.
I was also able to properly import to my test site in just a few minutes.
In this case, I suspect the issue is on the receiving site’s end, but since that is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, we really can’t help with that here.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
-
So you were able to export all 141 posts? And you have no idea why it’s only pulling over completely random posts?
-
I suspect maybe an interruption in the server processes on your self-hosted site.
As far as our end goes, the export files are complete (the files sizes I got also match the ones you quoted), and the files do import flawlessly to my testing ground self-hosted site.
