Hi, i’m trying to setup dns functionality. It says i need to sort my zone file out, how do i submit one or have a blank file created, as i have not set anything up with my registrar yet. I already have the domain name just need to re-point the name servers once this is sorted.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is not the blog i need help with……. it is another blog i am working on.

  • Hi there,

You have no domain or domain mapping upgrade on WordPress.com, so there is no way to set any DNS records with us.

What is the domain and what exactly are you trying to do?

If you want to use a domain you already own with your WordPress.com site, http://goldfoxweb.wordpress.com/ or any other site, you need to add a paid plan to that site and add the domain mapping upgrade to the site. Only then will you be able to add custom DNS records to connect email, create subdomains, etc. And those DNS records will only be active once you point your domain’s name servers to us from your registrar.

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

The blog I’m having problems with is matthewpglbristol.wordpress.com or matthew.pglbristol.uk

  • Okay. That site belongs to the username, jacevelize, so I’ll need you to post here as that username to help you with making any changes to that site, and you’ll need to be logged in as that username to access that domain’s settings.

That said, you only have a subdomain mapped to the WordPress.com site, so we have no control over your root domain’s DNS. Any DNS changes need to be made where you registered the domain, pglbristol.co.uk.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Until we can get the dns issue sorted can I get the IP address to setup the A records for the blog. The CNAME reference means I can’t setup the MX record for the subdomain. Thanks.

  • To map the subdomain using A records you’ll need to add two A-records using these IPs:

    192.0.78.24

    192.0.78.25

MX records will still need to be set up at the registrar or hosting provider that controls the name servers for the root domain. You won’t be able to add MX records for the subdomain on our end.
