moving domain

Hi, I have just created a blog/wiki that I currently have hosted on WordPress. Is it possible that, in the future, I can move my WordPress blog to another server or webhosting domain? And if so, is it difficult to do so? Thanks.

It is possible and there are some articles on this in word press’ faqs which I recently read. My apologies for not having the direct link but it should be really easy to find by searching for mapping to a different domain.
If you’re considering switching over to wordpress.org they have a great special deal happening right now for $99 they’ll take care of that for you. I’m in the process of making that switch right now. This is available from your dashboard in your blog by clicking on upgrades.

    This covers the basics.

WordPress also now has a service where, if you choose one of their approved hosts, they will completely set up and move all of your content over to the new web host for you for a cost of $99, which in my opinion is a very fair price. See here for more details.

Do note that if you self-host, you have a lot more “geeky” responsibilities. You are responsible for all installations, all upgrades, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure it out and fix it. Sometimes something as simple as adding a (badly designed) plugin or theme can kill your blog and sometimes recovering from such things is complex. Not trying to scare you off, but you need to know.

Also, I cannot stress enough the importance of doing regular and complete backups of your site, including the MySQL database. So many times I’ve been called in to recover a damaged blog and because there was no backups, or no recent backups, the client ended up losing a ton of content.

    Backup, backup, backup, backup.
