Moving domain during the 60 days. Can I still transfer it afterwards?
-
Hello, I recently purchased my domain through WordPress.com not realizing that I wouldn’t be able to customize a theme that I purchased through a third-party website. I would like to transfer my domain from WordPress.com to another host, so that I can take advantage of WordPress.org instead, but I understand it will take up to 60 days. I understand I can “move” my domain else where. How should I do that? And more importantly, would I still be able to transfer my domain properly once the 60 days are over?
Thank you
My domain is: albertobonannistudio.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Firstly, you don’t necessarily have to transfer your domain away from WordPress.com to use a third-party theme. You can keep your domain registered with us and point it to a site hosted by a different provider. Here’s a guide on how to change your domain’s name servers to point to a different hosting provider: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/change-name-servers/
Regarding the transfer of your domain, it’s true that there is a 60-day lock period for any newly registered or transferred domain. This is a standard practice in the domain registration industry. However, after these 60 days, your domain will be unlocked, and you’ll be free to transfer it to a different provider if you still wish to do so.
Additionally, I’d like to mention that upgrading to our Business plan might be a great solution for you. With the Business plan, you can install third-party themes directly on your WordPress.com site and further customize them. This could be a convenient way to achieve the look and feel you want for your site without the need to move your domain. You can see all the features of the Business plan here: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/business-plan/
I hope this helps. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out.
