Moving domain-mapped wordpress.com to same domain on wordpress.org

I’ve been playing around with wordpress.org for a bit for the last couple of days, and I am considering moving my domain-mapped wordpress.com blog over to wordpress.org but I’m unsure how this can be done seamlessly.

In particular, I’m trying to understand how blog redirecting works if the blog is mapped to a domain. That does not appear to be covered in http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/redirecting-your-blog/

Option # 1: Is it as easy as going to bluehost, transferring the domain, exporting and importing my content, making sure I keep the post structure intact, but not changing the name servers to bluehost with my registrar (as per instructions above) and keep on paying WP for the domain mapping? By reading the redirect instructions it appears to be so.

Option #2 is of course to unmap my domain from wordpress.com, transfer to bluehost, export and import, change the name servers and face a couple of days of downtime before the dust settles. Given my drop in traffic during summer the loss is most definitely on the bearable side.

Option #3 is to register a new domain with bluehost, and then forward the old domain to the new domain with my registrar, which hopefully will mean that olddomain.com/yyyy/mm/dd/post/ will automatically redirect to newdomain.com/yyyy/mm/dd/post/, even without a plugin, true? Unfortunately that will cost me considerable page and search ranking (for a while), but so be it.

This is perhaps better asked in the wordpress.org forum, but I’ll try here first.
