  Hello! I am interested in switching to use this as our eCommerce site, but I would like to test out a trial of some sort before doing so. Is there anyway to do this?

  There is no trial at wordpress.com
  You can either use Free / Paid wordpress.com plan.

  But with a paid plan, you can always ask for a refund within 30 days of purchase if you want.

  For having eCommerce functionality you need to install the wooCommerce plugin.

  Wordpress.com Business plan allows you to install Woocmmerce & other plugins.

  You can purchase the Business plan. and test the e-commerce functionality.
  If you are not satisfied you can always ask for a refund.
