Moving domains

I have a domain name with Go daddy and paid for 5 years ownership. Will transferring to WordPress affect ownership or attract any new costs (outside of plan costs)?

Hi there, if you transfer your domain to WordPressdotcom, they (WordPressdotcom) will extend your current 5-year ownership by one year. In this case you would only need to renew your WordPressdotcom site’s upgrade plan in order to continue using your domain and plan with your WordPressdotcom site. Plans usually need to be renewed annually.
To expand on that and answer your other question at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-is-better-transfer-or-mapping/ there are some domain names that cannot be transferred to WordPressdotcom, like .ca or .co.uk. In this case you would renew your domain at your current registrar and map your domain to your WordPressdotcom site which is included in every upgrade plan.
If you let us know what domain name is involved, we can give you a more exact reply.
