Moving existing domain name ending ‘.co.uk’ to wordpress (away from Joomla)
-
I’ve recently taken over responsibility of my social fan group page (I have zero experience with websites!). We have an existing domain name that ends in ‘.co.uk’. Our admin page, when I access it goes to Joomla. I want to move this over to wordpress and it seems a lot more intuitive and user-friendly. Can anyone help with easy to understand steps? When I tried the ‘manage’ option in wordpress, it said i can’t transfer ‘.co.uk’ domain name.

WordPress.com currently can’t accept incoming domain transfers of .co.uk domains. You’ll need to either keep the domain where it is or move it somewhere else and then map the domain to a WordPress.com site.

Hi @foxespride to clarify, all our upgrade plans include “domain mapping” so you do not have to transfer your domain to WordPress.com in order to use it as the address for your site.
Instead, you can leave the .co.uk domain with your current registrar but add our domain settings to the control panel there. This will connect the domain to WordPress.com so your site has a “.co.uk” address instead of a “wordpress.com” address.
This will also allow you to replace your current site with the new site, so you will not lose any visitors, they will just be directed to your WordPress.com site (at the same address) instead.
You can learn more about our WordPress.com upgrade plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
