Moving existing site to wordpress

    I’m considering moving a website to WP. Please could you answer a few questions about functionality? And how easy it is to migrate all the content from one to the other?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

    • Is it possible to have a search function that only searches one page of the website, such as a directory? And can I search using keywords that are only applied in the CMS?
    • Can I have an interactive map view with lots of points plotted?

    Hi! Feel free to share a little more about your existing site so we can better answer questions regarding the migration process. If the site is an existing WordPress site with another hosting provider, then we actually have a “Move to WordPress.com” plugin that you can use along with our Business plan:

    In terms of the search function, WordPress does have a built-in search but it typically searches all over the site; if you’re wanting a localised search for one page/directory then you might be looking at using a plugin which you can set restrictions on. We ourselves don’t have such a plugin but you can absolutely take a look in the general WordPress repository for something like this; we have our own search page here:

    That said, if you’d want to look at additional reviews and other information about the WordPress plugins available, you can also search the repository directly via WordPress.org:

    In terms of map, what sort of interactivity were you thinking of? We do have a couple of options, including the Map block which lets you add markers to a map:

    Otherwise depending on what sort of additional functions you need, you may find that a plugin will do the trick.
