moving from 3rd party host
-
Hi all! I finished my online course and they provided me with a ‘cookie cutter’ website with some content provided with live edit aurora. I bought my domain name with go daddy and want to keep that, just move over here to the free wordpress site and recreate my site here. I tried to ‘plug in’ my domain when signing up for WP, but it kept charging me $99. I still have my site with live edit- do I need to delete/ unsubscribe there first? Any tips appreciated!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Domain forwarding is not supported and will fail as our sites are not on permanent IP addresses. IP Address For Domain Mapping https://en.support.wordpress.com/ip-addresses/#ip-address-for-domain-mapping
Did you purchase an upgrade entitling your to map to an existing domain?
You can use the Personal Plan, yes, but you need to add the plan first. If you add the domain first, Premium is selected automatically.
Go to My Site ->Plans and buy the Personal Plan, and then you can go back and claim your free domain at My Site ->Domains ->Add.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/custom-domain-89?replies=6#post-2882612How domain mapping works
Registering an underlying .wordpress.com URL first is required for domain mapping. What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL .wordpress.com to the original content. It can take up to 72 hours for domain propagation to take place throughout the internet but it doesn’t usually take that long. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
There are 3 ways to add a custom domain to your blog. Please note that an active WordPress.com plan is required to add a custom domain to your site. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#getting-startedWordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ The domain or mapping of any existing domain URL is included in the pricing for a personal upgrade, a premium and a business upgrade. The WordPress.COM upgrade for mapping a domain must be renewed annually.
Please go to https://wordpress.com/pricing/ to upgrade.

Hey timethief!
Thanks for your fast reply!
Okay, wow…I must admit I’m feeling super overwhelmed. I am new to having my own site and already have a blog setup with wordpress (soulsummitwellness.wordpress.com). Does having a blog account with WP help me at all?
I have only had my site (the 3rd party one that was provided for me) for about 7 months now. I don’t believe I paid for anything along the way except for my domain name with go daddy. I believe after 12 months of having my site that was given to me, I have to start paying for it on my own. Would like to leave that site host.
What do you suggest be my first starting point from here?

Okay I totally understand, thanks for you help and time responding. I may call WP directly and speak to someone who can walk me through if I don’t hear back from mod look.
Thanks!

Hi @soulsummitblog, thanks for your patience. I’ve taken a look at your site and at your domain and I want to be sure I understand what you need.
You have a website you’ve built with GoDaddy. Did you want to take the name off that site and make it show the site that is at soulsummitwellness.wordpress.com ?
Or, did you maybe want blog.soulsummitwellness.com to show the blog you’ve started here?
Let me know what you have in mind and I’ll make a recommendation.

Hey supernovia!
Thanks for your response and patience with a newbie.
So I would love to keep soulsummitwellness.com (as bought with godaddy) I did start a blog with wordpress a while back that I have neglected. My business site is currently “with” a 3rd party site called Live Edit Aurora. This was set up for me upon my completion of my course. Upon working with a personal coach and wanting to further my business, he suggesting moving from the Live Edit Site, and to WordPress as he says he loves WordPress and I may find it easier to work with ( i found LiveEdite cumbersome and dreaded working on my site…)
If I could “delete” my account/site with Live Edit and recreate my soulsummitwellness.com on WordPress (and maybe even link my WP blog to it at some point?) that is my ideal goal. Not sure if this is possible, I’m learning as I go.
Thanks so much for all the help!

It’s absolutely possible :)
If I were in your shoes, I would buy a plan first so I have direct support and the ability to map a domain.
Then I would use http://soulsummitwellness.wordpress.com/ to set up the site, copy your writing over to the new site, etc, so you don’t lose that work.
And then I would point the domain here with the mapping steps we mentioned below.
