moving from a managed wordpress site on Siteground to wordpress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I currently run my site on through Siteground, it is a high performing site, i have a dedicated cloud server with 4 CPUs and 16gb of RAM memory. I am thinking to move to .com but i still need this performance as i am using a plugin to query rss feeds every 2 hours. Will i get the same kind of performance on .com?

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

What is the package you currently have with Siteground so that we can best advise?

You could look to move a copy of the site over to WordPress.com to assess performance under a free temporary domain.

Our business plan also has a 14 day refund window available, so this can be used to compare services.

Out of curiosity, why are you looking to move away from Siteground?

Hi there, here is a screenshot of the plan i am on Siteground. I am looking to move for easier site maintenance as well as possibly lower cost as more things are included in wp.com…

    Hi there,

I am trying to use WPVivid to create a staging copy however it says it says: ‘allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 61440 bytes) file:/wordpress/core/6.1.1/wp-includes/class-wpdb.php line 2153’

I have tried, as per guidance on the documentation of wpvivid plugin to increase the php memory in the advanced tab as well as the staging tab but nothing seems to work… I am not sure what other memory to edit here, could you help?

That is definitely a question for the WPVivid developers. Since this is a third-party plugin, it would be best to contact them regarding this error: https://wpvivid.com/my-account

Reach out to them and see what they say about this issue. We’d be happy to continue assisting with the migration once the source of the error is resolved. Let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

Ok thanks. This was actually for a different site, i thought i posted a new question but i am not sure why it added it onto here. So the siteground question is for a different site than the staging one. But i will ask wpvivid thank you.

  • Ah okay. Someone may have accidentally merged these assuming the questions were related. Sorry about that.

For the site you’re moving here, it sounds like maybe you’re coming from a VPS/cloud setup. Our setup is a bit different. You’ll have a storage limit, but no limits on data transfers.

but i still need this performance as i am using a plugin to query rss feeds every 2 hours

Can you share the name of the plugin and any other context about that? We can double-check to see if there are any reports of it having issues here. You mentioned in the first post that you have 16GB ram, and the screenshot says 8GB. Did you upgrade to 16 at some point?

All that said, I suspect this will be the best plan for you:

And, once you have a paid plan, you’ll have access to direct support for that site here. Feel free to continue here in the forums or reach out over chat at that point.

right my bad it is indeed 8gb i just checked. I use wp rss aggregator.

    WP RSS Aggregator

Thanks for clarifying. WP RSS Aggregator is on our list of incompatible plugins, so you wouldn’t be able to use it here at WordPress.com.
