Moving from Adobe Muse to WP Questions
-
Our business is looking to maybe move from Adobe Muse to WordPress.com (since our domain is registered to GoDaddy).
We want to be sure that we can redesign the site and test it thoroughly before replacing the live Adobe Muse version. During site setup, we stopped at mapping the domain because we were afraid it will overwrite our live site before we get to design. Is it okay to move forward in that step or should we create a test site first?

Hi info92d93ddc284,
Our business is looking to maybe move from Adobe Muse to WordPress.com (since our domain is registered to GoDaddy).
Once you have created the new site on WordPress.com and are ready to use the domain here, it can be connected with domain mapping:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
With this option, the domain will remain registered through GoDaddy and renewed through them each year. It’s also possible to transfer an existing domain to WordPress.com — but it sounds like you prefer the mapping option.

Pointing the name servers to WordPress.com won’t overwrite the existing site but once you’ve made that change, the old site will no longer load at that address. In which case, GoDaddy may assign a temporary domain for the existing site once the domain has been pointed elsewhere but I recommend checking with them.

Sure, you can start by creating a free site, importing content, choosing a theme etc. Then add domain mapping at a later date. If you need to upgrade before then in order to access upgraded features, the domain credit can remain unused for the time being.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
