Moving from Drupal to WordPress?
-
Hey Y’all Ill keep the story short.
I’ve been developing, or at least trying, in drupal and the learning curve is just kind of silly to me. I feel its overly complicated to do something such as place a button where I want and then theming it. So i’m looking to leave that complicated piece of crapAnyways I’m curious to how developing a job listings directory (like an angies list) with a paywall for contractors would be. Its a small business.

I found something like this which is basically what I need. Im curios to any input you guys have here and any resources and things you recommend to me.
Im a junior developer so im not foreign to stuff but I got a new job and they want me to make a website now. Thanks for any input.

Hi –
Are you looking to use WordPress.com or the WordPress installation for this site?
The differences between the two are outlined here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
-
A word press installation.
I want a little more control.
Themes, plugins that are featured for wordpress.com websites are the same yes? -
As for using WordPress.com, do you know by any chance of any job listing directories like Angies list or like the demo i posted?
If I can do something like that and still have the option to manipulate some things I need to then I dont mind at this point. -
@wpatest595491829 okay. Since you want to use your own themes/plugins/etc, you could either use a business plan here with us, or you could use your own WordPress.org installation at another host.
There are some plugins that create job listing pages if that’s what you’re after. To be frank, I’m not sure if any of them are compatible with our service, though, since they would likely need to create their own sign-on pages, and that can conflict with our tools. So I’d probably roll with a WordPress.org installation instead of our service.
A few tips that might help:
– Check out job listing plugins
– Since you’re a developer, you could go ahead and tinker with your own local installation first (noting some plugins might not work locally)
– You’ve got some fantastic resources in the codex, the forums for WordPress.org installations, and perhaps your local community. You *might* even be able to find a video with info on someone’s similar experience setting up listings.
I hope that helps!
