Moving from one host to another

    I wanted to know how to move my wordpress website from one host to another. My current host asked me to download a backup from my previous host and upload it to the File Manager of the new host. However, this did not move my website and it still appears offline.
    Today support (from new host) got back to me and asked me to do the following:

    We receive an update from our Technical Team. As per them, we have changed your DB Host now. Kindly change your Database password on your wp-config.php file in line 36. If you do not know your DB password, then you need to change it first before changing that one in the said file.

    I have changed the password, but I am not sure what does this have to do with taking my website online.

    When I try accessing my url, I get the following message:

    *Error establishing a database connection*

    Another thing is when I try to access wordpress through myurl.com/wp-admin, I get the following message:

    Error establishing a database connection
    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at demodeantiques.com.mysql. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    Are you sure you have typed the correct hostname?
    Are you sure the database server is running?
    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    Would you be able to advise on what might have gone wrong here?

    We are unable to help because we don’t host your site directly on our WordPress.com managed hosting. Instead, your site is hosted with a different provider on a separate host, and we’re not able to access the backend of your site to take a closer look.

    The good news is that because your host uses the open-source variant of the WordPress platform (which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com), help is available at the community forums here:

    The folks in the open-source forum are more familiar with these issues and are in the best position to help.
