Moving from Opencart Domain to WordPress
-
Hi there, I have a client who has a domain with Opencart installed on it and he want’s it to changed to WordPress with Woocommerce.
I’d just like to know if simply install WordPress onto the domain will work and overwrite everything or do I need to remove Opencart first?
He want’s that domain, no subdomain. So Basically a fresh website but on WordPress.
It’s not hard to do, I just don’t know about Opencart too much and how it might affect the new installed WordPress.
Thanks.
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hello there,
Happy to help you with this.
So you’re able to build a site here with WordPress, using a temporary domain, and then when ready you can point the domain over to WordPress as per these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Effectively, you’re only moving the domain, not the site at Opencart, and the sites themselves would be separate entities.
What features do you require specifically? Perhaps we can offer some insights.

Hi There,
Thanks for your feedback.
Yeah, so basically I’m building the new WordPress website on a temporary domain, and like you said, once it is complete, I’ll point it to the opencart domain.
But my question is, what happens to the Current data and website on the Opencart domain when the WordPress Website is pointed to it.
Does it just overwrite everything, delete?
Alternatively, my client says the website can be removed once the WordPress website it up and running. Makes sense, no need for old stuff.
But I just don’t want conflictions of two sites. That’s my worry.

Once you point the domain to the new site, then the old one will be publicly inaccessible. However, its data will remain intact unless you or the host deletes it.
