Moving from .Org to WordPress.com

  Has anyone ever moved a rather large site (database about 150mb) from wordpress.org to wordpress.com?

  If you did can you offer any tips, advice, etc…?

  Does wordpress.com offer a service to move it for you?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  As far I can tell WordPress.com offers the reverse of what you’re looking for, transferring from .com to .org: http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/ No such thing for .com to .org though.

  As I have no idea what’s the current setup on your .org site, I don’t know if I can give a proper advice. If your site is super customized with plugins and custom post types and the likes, it’s probably not going to be possible to replicate that in WordPress.com. You might want to read this first, the difference between .com and .org: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  (If your site is relatively simple, though, and those database items are mostly just posts and comments and media, you can setup a test site here and try the import method as mentioned here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

  It does have a few plugins that I know I will lose, but I am not worried about that and it doesn’t have custom post types. I am mainly worried about keeping everything like it is and taking advantage of the wordpress.com speed, storage space, reliability and price as opposed to what I am doing now.

  In that case, you might want to create a test site, set it as private, then import the content, see if it works.

  Also do you know if there is a limit to the size of the import file?

  There seems to be a file size limit, and the issue is more about processing time rather than the raw size. I don’t know the details though.
