moving from self-hosted blog to WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I just imported my self-hosted site through bluehost (melaniebweaver.com) over to my exsiting wordpress.com account. I switched my DNS over on bluehost to the wordpress servers, and I renewed/paid for another year of the domain melaniebweaver.com at bluehost. My hosting plan with them isn’t up until July or August, I think. Can I still post via my wordpress.com account? Also, I’d like to set it up as my default/primary site on my wordpress.com account, but it doesn’t look like I can do that, as it just shows up as a ‘linked blog.’

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

It looks like you have successfully switched the DNS over to WordPress.com, which is a great start. However, simply changing the name servers isn’t enough to properly connect your domain to your WordPress.com site.

To complete the connection and make the domain the primary address, you’ll need to have a paid plan on your WordPress.com site. You can find more information on domain connection in this guide:

If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site. Once you complete the steps below, instead of your site address being something like yourgroovysite.wordpress.com, your site’s address will be something like yourgroovydomain.com. Follow the steps in this guide to keep your domain registered with your current provider and use it to show

For the plan, I would like to recommend the Personal plan. This plan is affordable and has many features you might need, such as the ability to connect a domain, remove ads, access to email support, and more. It’s a great entry-level option for bloggers and small website owners who want to have a professional and ad-free online presence. If you’re interested, you can quickly upgrade below.

I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further assistance.
