moving from squarespace to wordpress

so i’m trying to move a domain name from squarespace to wordpress, and i want some quick clarification before i do so to avoid any complications.

i’m planning on transferring the domain (beccahallstedtdesign.com) to 1&1 by using the transfer key provided by squarespace. then, i’ll use a wordpress theme that i’m planning on purchasing through trust theme. those are the typical steps, correct? is it true that i cannot just directly move that name from squarespace to wordpress?

you are mostly right BUT – there are two types of “WordPress”

For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I will assume you want to move here to WordPress.COM

You can’t use an outside theme but there are over 300 themes to choose from – some free – some cost – https://wordpress.com/themes/

If you have content in a “WordPress” thing where you are at – then you export the contents from there and import them here to a blog (any name will do but close to your custom domain name is more class)

transferring the registration is fine – domain registration can’t be transferred to WordPress.COM – they are not set up for incoming transfers

once you have the content transferred here – you will need to buy domain mapping $13.-/yr (or included in the $99.-/yr upgrade) and change the name servers to WordPress.COM and you are good to go once the changes migrate across the internet

    hope this helps a bit
