Moving from WordPress to GoDaddy
-
I have inherited a website here and want to move it completely to GoDaddy. GoDaddy has a tool for directly bringing my entire website from here to GoDaddy including automatically building any databases necessary during the process.
The problem I am having is naming conventions for some of the fields I have to input information on the GoDaddy side.
I have to enter the following information:
1. The URL to the location of the installed application to be migrated.
2. Choose either FTP with TLS/SSL or FTP
(I have tried both)
3. Server IP or Hostname
(I have tried many many things here … don’t know what to put)
(This is the field that always calls an error)
4. Port number (21)
5. Username
(This is the username I use to log in to the admin account on WP)
6. Password
(This is the password I use to log in to the admin account on WP)
7. Path from the FTP account’s root directory to the above install location
(public_html
8. Domain is filled in for me automatically. It is the GoDaddy domain name
9. Database Management. The choices are Automatically Create or Select Existing Database
(I chose Automatically Create since no database exists yet and I want it to use the existing database from WP)Each time I input a server name for #3 above I get the error message “! Could not connect to the web hosting server. Please try again in a couple of minutes. Technical Error: Undefined index: locale”
Nothing gets imported into GoDaddy. I suspect the problem is that I don’t have the correct information to input into field #3, but after much searching cannot find where this information is located. I have tried tvssenergymanagement.com, http://ftp.tvssenergymanagement.com, tvssenergymanagement.wordpress.com and all of them return the same error message.
GoDaddy suggested I make a backup of all the data on WP and then upload it into the GoDaddy site, but once again … can’t find any help on this. All I can find is Export which exports a xtml document which is useless for using in GoDaddy (according to GoDaddy)
What am I doing wrong? What I am trying to do should not be complicated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Please note that you do not have FTP access at WordPress.com. That is for self-hosted WordPress.org sites. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.
Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:
In order to move your site, you will need to export your site, and import it to wherever you want to go. But, please make sure they accept our export file. Here’s a support guide on instructions of how to export:
Cheers!

I have already pointed out that GoDaddy has told me they do not accept the xtml file created by the WordPress export function.
The only reason I mention ftp anywhere is that I “guessed” at names of servers to put in the field which keeps on generating the error I listed. It’s interesting that I have no ftp access, yet I can ping the ftp server listed above as part of my domain (that is why I used it in the names of servers I tried using in the field on GoDaddy’s tool. It was a last resort.)
I noticed, in error, I used “ftp server name” as a tag. I have updated that entry. I did not mean to mention or infer that I am attempting to use ftp as a transport for the data between sites.
When I set up this particular support thread I used my personal email address for notification of answers to my original post. I received the first response email after my original post, but not subsequent notifications. I am having to manually check here for answers.
All I am looking for is the name of the server which contains my site and data. That is all I need.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your response.
Perhaps I am not asking the correct question. I did not request the DNS server names for WordPress.
Let me describe the problem from another viewpoint. Maybe that will help in your diagnosis.
From the godaddy tool, I am using the same server name, username and password I use to access my account and all dashboard functions from my web browser.
I get the error message “! Could not connect to the web hosting server. Please try again in a couple of minutes. Technical Error: Undefined index: locale”
So, what I need is the name of the server I need to input into the field in the godaddy tool that contains all the data for my site. Whatever server name this is has to have a username and password for the tool to use to access the data.
Just to avoid confusion, “data” refers to forms, blog entries, databases, and/or anything else that can be construed as data. If possible, hopefully the template and names of any tools or widgets associated with the site too.
I am still not receiving any email telling me when you post a response.

Update … I found out the tool godaddy uses to bring in the wordpress site does not work from the type of wordpress site I use. Thanks for your time and effort.
