Moving from WordPress to Self Hosted – Need Redirects to Changed Permalinks
-
I’m working with a business to move their WordPress.com hosted site to a self hosted copy. However they’re on a https domain and have changed permalink structure – both of which appear to be unavailable options in the paid 301 redirects. Can someone help with that in a way that allows 301’s to a secure site with changed Permalink structure?

Hi there,
Please see this guide https://move.wordpress.com/
In either case, to redirect your permalinks (including links indexed by Google), make sure you choose Day and name in Settings → Permalinks in the WP Admin area of your self-hosted WordPress site so they match the same as what was used here.

Hi,
WordPress.com sites, including custom domains, are always encrypted.
To move your WordPress.com site to a self hosted site, you may consider looking at the guides given here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/
For redirection, refer this: https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/
Once it is redirected to a self-hosted WordPress site, you have to buy SSL certificate and install it on the server to have a HTTPS site. For more details on this, consider looking at this guide: https://make.wordpress.org/support/user-manual/web-publishing/https-for-wordpress/
Also, for more understanding on this, I suggest you raise this query on WordPress.org support forum (https://wordpress.org/support/) as this forum is for solving WordPress.com queries.
Hope this helps!

Hi there,
Can you please give the URL of the site involved? If the site was at a custom domain here on WordPress.com and it will still be on the same domain at the new host, there is no reason for buying a site redirect from us. There will be a temporary dip in search engine traffic as search engines re-index the site at the new permalinks, but after a few weeks that should return to normal.
A site redirect is only required if you want to redirect traffic from the free *.wordpress.com URL to a different site. In that case we try to redirect to the correct content on the other site, but if you use a different permalink structure that might not always work.
The Site Redirect upgrade can only redirect to an http link. An http to https redirect needs to be set up on the server of the other site. Many hosting providers do this automatically, so please check with them. Else you’ll likely need to edit the .htaccess file to add a redirect rule there.
