Moving from WordPress.com to Self hosted blog?
-
My site has been doing quite well since launching it in late March of this year. I’m trying to decide whether or not I should to move my free WordPress.com blog to a Self hosted blog. How difficult is this transition? Would I still be able to keep the same level of traffic? What are the pros and cons of using a self hosted blog versus WordPress.com? Where can I find more info on this?
Thanks in advance!

Hi. Does this article by a fellow volunteer help?

And there have been quite a number of forum thread started on the subject. I would try searching “moving to wordpress.org” in the Support docs search box. It will also return more recent forums threads as well.

The differences between wordpress.COM free hosted blogs and wordpress.ORG self-histed installs are found here. > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
We cannot predict whether or not you will retain the traffic your blog currently attracts or not. The post airodyssey has linked to contains a step by step do-it-yourself process with all of thesacredpath’s advice and tips in it. It clearly states what’s required and what to expect. If you prefer you can use this process instead > http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/ -
Thank you very much everyone for all your pointers. It’s incredibly helpful. Sounds like I’ve got to do a fair amount research before committing myself into this!

@dnadiana
You’re welcome from me. :) Unless or until you have the skills to self host your own install and cope with that all on your own, knowing that no matter what may go wrong you alone will be responsible for fixing it then moving is premature.
