Moving from wordpress.com to self-hosted blog…Have question about the process

    Hi,

I’m transition from a wordpress.com hosted blog to a self-hosted wordpress blog and I had a couple questions I was hoping you could answer.

I’d like to move all my current posts appearing on the .com blog to my self-hosted one. I’ve read several tutorials, but am still having trouble getting this to work. Do I have to be uploaded to a host (like godaddy) before I can import posts?

Also, will the mp3s I’ve posted on my blog me included in the import of posts? Also, will I still be able to use upgraded 5 GB of space I recently purchased once I move over? Finally, how does the transition of RSS feeds work? Should I be expecting any problem even though everything will remain under consequenceofsound.com?

    Thanks for the help,
    Alex

Yes, I believe you have to have a host for your new blog before you can export your blog to that, otherwise it has no destination.

The MP3s will not be imported. None of the uploaded files will be imported. The links to them will remain, however, unless you delete the blog where you uploaded them.

The upgrades you purchased apply only to your WP.com blog and not to anywhere else.

Your RSS feed, like your blog URL, will be completely different (unless you’ve been using the domain upgrade to use your own domain name) so all your RSS subscribers will have to switch their feeds.
