Moving from wordpress.com to wordpress.org
-
Hi. I don’t understand why my question is being deleted… I’ve tried twice already, I’m trying again:
I have a blog on wordpress.com. I wish to create my own website on Dreamhost, and to use wordpress.org to build it.
I wish to know – is it possible to “copy-paste” my entire blog to my new website? I have more than 100 pages and posts, and more than 100 pictures. I would like to keep everything “as it is”, and move it to a new website with a new URL. Can it be done? And if so – How?
I also wish to redirect anyone who tries to reach my blog on wordpress.com to my new website, so that links from other websites to my blog will remain relevant and will lead eventually to my website. Again – can it be done? And if so – How?
Thanks in advance for any answer.

You can export your blog content out of your blog and import it into a WordPress.org install. See here > moving to WordPress.org
1. Log into the WordPress.com blog, go to Tools → Export and download the XML (WXR) file to your computer.
2. In the new WordPress.org install, go to Tools → Import → WordPress and upload the file you downloaded in step 2. You can choose the option to Download & import file attachments if you want to move your media files. You must export and import links separately. All content in text widgets must be copied and pasted.

If you purchase a domain name and domain mapping upgrade from WordPress.com then the result will be that all the wordpress.com sub-domain links will seamlessly redirect to the domain URLs for the same content. What you do when your WordPress.org site is ready is to change the nameservers. Then you make the WordPress.com blog “private” to avoid duplicate content issues.
