Moving from WP.com to WP.org
-
I’m having someone help me transfer over to a WP.org site, but will I lose all of the comments from my WP.com blog or is it easy to transfer everything over? Am I starting from scratch by going to WP.org?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you export your blog from here, all comments, posts, drafts, pages, categories and tags will be exported. When you go to import everything to the new blog, you will be given the choice of also bring over all your images (a button will appear once you start the import process).
The one thing you will lose (if you did not have your own domain name while here) is all your search engine ranking, so from that standpoint you will be starting from scratch. What I did was to put a final post up on my blog here telling everyone I had moved and giving them a link, and then I set all the posts here back to “draft.” Also, in your dashboard here go to settings > privacy and select the middle setting (to block search engines) so that your blog here will not interfere with your new blog by presenting duplicate content.

Ok. Excellent info Sacredpath… much appreciated. Think I’ll stay here for a while and move over later on.

Thanks for the information.
I’m thinking about going with WordPress.org, this was very helpful.
I will add to my favorites.
