Moving images blog to blog
-
I am trying to move/consolidate a blog on wordpress.com to another blog on wordpress.com. I was able to move the posts via export and import functions but I am at a loss as to how I move all the images over. I have read your docs but none of it seems clear as to how to physically move those media files from one blog to another without having ftp access and other capabilities.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
According to the support documents, you may need to manually download the media files and re-upload to the new site.
Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog.
An alternative way to this is to install a local WordPress.org software and run the importer to download the media files to your computer.
If you’d like to backup the media files as well, you will need to install WordPress.org locally on your computer, and run the import from it. This process will download the media files to your computer.
I’m adding a modlook tag to see if the staff has any better way of doing it.

Hi there,
Between which two sites did you move your content? If it was between two WordPress.com sites, all images referenced in your posts should have been transferred over automatically as part of the import.

Holy cow, it looks like you are right! I could’ve sworn when I looked yesterday that the url for the images was pointing to the old site but now it says the new url but maybe not :)
Thank you! I hope I didn’t take too much of ya’ll’s time!Just to answer your question and confirm, here’s an example of the post on the “old” site: https://dmacanvas.com/2017/11/20/ttfn/ and the same post now on the “new” site: https://uncrated.wordpress.com/2017/11/20/ttfn/

Ok, while I have your attention, I am seeing links to the old site and I am not able to install search and replace to edit them site-wide. Do you have a way for me to find and replace the links pointing to the old site since there are a LOT of posts to go through? An example would be a link to https://dmacanvas.com/authors which was hosted on wordpress.com as well.

You can disregard my last question. I just went through and did it manually. Thank you again for all your help!!

Ok, I’m sorry but I was wrong. I still have images pointing to the old site. I thought I was looking at a post that was moved over but I guess not. Here is one that I moved from https://dmacanvas.com/ (https://dmaeducatorblog.wordpress.com/)
Page: https://uncrated.wordpress.com/2017/08/29/c3-summer-intern-recap-abigail/
If you inspect the image, it’s still pointing to https://dmaeducatorblog.wordpress.com/. So I need to be able to move the image to the “new” blog: https://uncrated.wordpress.com
Please help!

Ugh, it doesn’t look like it. I will try again.
I am still having the original issue I posted about. The images are still being pulled from the original blog, https://dmacanvas.com/, on the new blog, https://uncrated.wordpress.com/.
Here is an example of what I’m talking about. If you inspect the image on this page, it’s pointing back to the url, https://dmaeducatorblog.files.wordpress.com. Which is the wordpress.com url for the https://dmacanvas.com/ site.
Please help!

Yes, it looks like your replies got caught in the forum spam filter. I’ve unspammed them for you.

We might be able to help import the images that are still missing and rewrite the links. I’ve put in a request for that, and will let you know once I hear back. It might be a few days before someone can do this.
I also notice the site is already using 12.3 GB of the 13 GB storage available via the space upgrade owned by another user on the site. If the images that still need to be imported push the total up past 13GB we won’t be able to import all of them. In that case you’ll need to upgrade to the Business Plan to get additional storage.
I’m just mentioning it so you know it might be an issue.

Ok, they are planning on buying the business plan on the new blog anyway. I will ask them to do that now and hopefully it will get done before you move the images. I can let you know if they are able to do it soon.
Thank you (both) for the help!

Ok, they upgraded to the business plan so we should be good on space now to “import the images that are still missing and rewrite the links.”
Thank you so much!

Thanks for letting us know, and we will let you know as soon as we get the images moved over and the links all corrected for you.
-
Can someone please let me know if the ticket was done? It looks like the images are moved over but I want to make sure 100%.
Thank you!

We have not moved anything over manually yet. But it’s safe to start adding new content to your site while waiting.
As soon as we get to your site to check for and fix any missing images I’ll let you know.

Can someone please let me know if the ticket was done yet? It’s been a few weeks and they upgraded to the business plan so they could get the support they need to get this done.
Thanks ahead of time for your response!
