Moving images from a wordpress.org site

    Hi,

I’m trying to move my wordpress.org site to a wordpress.com one. Unfortunately, I kept the images from the former site in another folder (not under wp-content/uploads/…). Is there another way other than the Add Media feature? Something along the lines of loading a zip file and then unpacking that zip file?

    Cheers

Have you already tried to do your import into WordPress.com? Right now I see 298 posts and 225 items in your media library, though many are not attached to a post right now, so it looks like your images may not have been properly attached to posts on your .org site.

Did you upload your images to your media library on your .org site, or use a plugin like NextGen Gallery? What’s the URL for your .org site?

    The URL is thescreamingwall.com.

I didn’t upload them to the media library, but linked them in from another folder in the Cpanel file manager. I didn’t use a plug-in at all.

I tried the import, but most of the images (aside from the full images I’ve imported recently) still reside back to the .org site.

Here is an example of a post I haven’t touched yet:

and here is one that I updated a week or two ago:

I’m okay with having to rebuild the galleries for each post, but I was planning on getting a premium account and use the domain name for the wordpress.com site. This means that the links will no longer work. I thought if I could do a bulk import of the images it would save me some time.

    Cheers

If the images weren’t uploaded into WordPress proper via the media library, they won’t likely be included in the import. My recommendation is that you download them to your hard drive and then import them in batches into your WordPress.com media library (rather than one by one) so that the images reside on your site and will contain your custom domain address. You will need to go back and edit existing posts because they aren’t currently attached to anything and won’t be when you upload them here.

You can drag and drop a bunch of images at once, or select a group in your browser.
