Moving my domain to WordPress
-
I have an account with Weebly that has become Square. It is no longer suitable for my needs. I want to transfer my website to WordPress and pay you to host it instead. I also have an email with that domain managed by Google or Gmail. What’s my next step please?
WP.com: Unknown
Jetpack: Unknown
Correct account: UnknownThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Now I have realised that I am locked in with Square until October 2024. So I’m guessing that this will make it impossible for me to do anything meaningful with the site without losing money.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi there –
I’ll be happy to help. Are you able to share the URL of the current site so I can take a closer look?
On WordPress.com you can accept payments and build a store. You own your domain and can move it anywhere you please, at any time, by editing the DNS records.
Looking at your site on rebecca-art.com you would be able to replicate all of that on our premium plan. I’m suggesting that option so you don’t have to worry about storage space and are able to upload high resolution images of your art.
Write back with any other questions.

Hello, I think that’s the option I have chosen. Apparently my site is in its way and should be transferred in the next few days. Where I’m struggling however is with my Google Workspace email which WordPress apparently doesn’t support or recognise. Very troubling as my domain is Rebecca-Art.com and hence my email (email visible only to moderators and staff)
I’m taking a break until my site transfers over and then hopefully there will be a way to continue using my business email.
I’m considering selling through my site but for the moment it serves only as a portfolio. I know I’ve a lot to change and update.
do you have any experience with this type of email issue?
Thank you, Rebecca

Ok, so just to check – are you transferring the domain name
rebecca-art.comover to us now? The reason that I ask is that transferring a domain does not also transfer the site content; you’ll want to see if you can at least get an export of the text and possibly images on your site so you can bring them over too! There’s some general information about importing content here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-weebly/With regards to Google Workspace, there are a couple of things to bear in mind:
- We can’t receive control of the billing for your Google Workspace account. If you have that through Weebly, you may wish to get their help to transfer your billing to Google themselves.
- You can still use Google Workspace with your site here so you receive and send email with your
@rebecca-art.comemail address. In order to do that, you’d need to add the DNS records here on WordPress.com. You can actually do that pre-emptively:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/add-email-through-google-workspace/
Our guide I linked above has two methods: the automatic method for preparing to use Google Workspace here on WordPress.com, and the manual method. They’re equally effective! Feel free to take a look and let us know if you have any queries about it.

Hello, my domain has transferred over but it’s empty. None of my content that has taken years to build is there. What can I do? If I’d known I’d lose all the content I’d have taken steps to safeguard the content before the transfer.
HELP!!

Hey there,
Many thanks for reaching back out – just to reassure you, transferring the domain, is just transferring the domain, it’s not transferring the content.
The content should still be at Weebly – are you able to access the installation at Weebly? We can look to guide you toward next steps in getting that content moved across.
Many thanks.
