Moving my site from photobiz to wordpress
-
First of all I’m a little annoyed that I can’t even chat with anyone from wordpress about anything :/ I know I’m going to need a TON of help moving my site so quick help is going to be super important but it is what it is i guess.
Anyway, I currently use photobiz for my site and need to move it, how do I move my current site to wordpress without interrupting anything? How long does it take to move the site and email over? will i lose my past emails? Can I create a new site design here in the background while leaving my existing site up (my existing site uses a photobiz template)? (I just purchased a new theme and I’ll need time to set that up before my current site can be taken down). Literally have no idea how any of this works. :/ Thanks for any help!
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there, we offer forum support for all users on our free plan, and email and live chat support for all customers with our Pro plan: https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/
Visiting https://wordpress.com/help/contact will always connect you with your plan’s highest available support option.
how do I move my current site to wordpress without interrupting anything? […] Can I create a new site design here in the background while leaving my existing site up (my existing site uses a photobiz template)?
When you sign up for a new site, we give you a free subdomain (*.wordpress.com) that you can use to start building your new site.
Here’s a guide that will help you migrate your site to WordPress.com:
https://transferto.wordpress.com/Note that you will need a Pro plan when you want to connect or transfer your domain to the site: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
How long does it take to move the site and email over?
Moving the content is relatively quick. However, depending on the current domain registrar, the domain change can take a few days.
The email depends on a few factors. Let’s cover that next:
will i lose my past emails?
We have a few options for email detailed at https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/
Some of those options can import email, but also you could continue to keep your email with your current provider: https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/add-other-email/
If you keep the same email provider, there will be no disruption or import. However, disruption and import time will depend on that provider if you use a different provider.
Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Thanks for the quick response! how do I handle hosting? and how much would all this cost me? I am currently paying $39 a month for photobiz, thats for a SSL secure site and email. The pricing page doesn’t say anything about email, is that included in the pro plan pricing?
for the *.wordpress.com domain that I would be using to design the new site, how does that get changed to my existing URL when I’m ready for the site to go live? I don’t want the URL to appear as .wordpress.com.
during the move from photobiz to wordpress you said that its “relatively quick” but could take a few days depending on the current registrar – will my site be down for all that time? if so, that will totally dictate when I attempt this.
Also for client galleries, I am currently using zenfolio for that, can I link them to a wordpress site? and do you offer client viewing options and if so what are the size limits? Some of the galleries are pretty big (wedding especially) so what kind of storage space is available and is there a time limit that the galleries can exist on your servers?
Sorry for all the questions LOL! new to wordpress so I’m not sure what I’m getting myself into :)
Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response! how do I handle hosting?
We’re a fully hosted provider, which means if you have a site with us, you are hosted by us; even on the free plan, no additional payment is required. :)
and how much would all this cost me?
You can find our prices at https://wordpress.com/pricing/
thats for a SSL secure site and email. The pricing page doesn’t say anything about email, is that included in the pro plan pricing?
SSL is included with all sites here for free: https://wordpress.com/support/https-ssl/
Email would be an add-on purchase, and pricing depends on which provider you choose: https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/
for the *.wordpress.com domain that I would be using to design the new site, how does that get changed to my existing URL when I’m ready for the site to go live?
We have two ways to use a domain you already own with a site here at WordPress.com:
Domain Connection allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow you to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
during the move from photobiz to wordpress you said that its “relatively quick” but could take a few days depending on the current registrar – will my site be down for all that time?
No, the domain will continue to point to the old site until it has fully propagated to the new site.
Also for client galleries, I am currently using zenfolio for that, can I link them to a wordpress site?
You can link to a gallery hosted elsewhere if you’d like, or use our own gallery: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/gallery-block/
and do you offer client viewing options and if so what are the size limits?
I’m not sure what you mean by this, would you please elaborate?
what kind of storage space is available and is there a time limit that the galleries can exist on your servers?
There’s no time limit on uploaded media.
As for space, the Free plan includes 1 GB and the Pro plan includes 50 GB: https://wordpress.com/support/space-upgrade/
Sorry for all the questions LOL!
No worries! Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Hi, I am ready to start building my site. I already have a domain that is currently being used for my site now. Do I choose that domain to start building a new site or do I have to choose a different one (I see the *.wordpress.com is free so should I choose that?) If I use my existing domain will it affect my current site? I just don’t want to mess anything up :) Thanks!

Hi,
Just to clarify, you have a current site with a custom domain (i.e. yourgroovysite.com) that you want to keep operational at photobiz until you are done setting up your new site here at WordPress.com? Then once the site here is finished, you’d like to move your existing custom domain over to the WordPress.com site?
If so, then you should just choose to stick with the *.wordpress.com URL for now. You can easily set the site up with your custom domain later.
Does that make sense?
