Moving my subscribers from WordPress.com to self-hosted site

    Dear Mr/Mrs

I have transferred my old wordpress.com blog to a new self-hosted wordpress blog with a new url as well. I have successfully done all the steps explained at the support section such as connecting the jetpack plugin, activating the subscription and posting a notice telling my site’s followers that I am moving.

As it is explained in the “Moving a Blog” instructions, now I am contacting you as I would like to move my followers from http://elhombrequenopodiaamar.com to http://habilidadsocial.com. In the new blog I have created a new distribution list for subscribers on Mailchimp and I won’t be using Jetpack subscriptions, so I think I only need to upload my old subscriber’s e-mails there and I can do it by myself. However, I would like to bring my RSS followers and WordPress followers to my new blog as well.

    Thank you in advance,

    Pau

  • Hi Pau,

RSS is a passive solution, meaning that there is not a subscriber list for it. Users following you via RSS have their client of choice “ping” your site to check for updates, then pull down new posts to display in their preferred reader.

Your RSS followers would be following you at http://elhombrequenopodiaamar.com/feed/ , so you can either make an announcement on your WordPress.com site letting them know to update their feeds to your new address, purchase a Site Redirect upgrade to have the RSS feeds redirected automatically, or point your domain to your new hosting provider and have it set to forward to your new site.

If you have any questions or need me to do anything, please let me know. Thanks!

Thank you very much for your reply. I will purchase the site redirect upgrade and also manually upload the e-mail subscribers to my new distribution list.

    Regards,

    Pau
