moving my wordpress.com blog to a page within wordpress.org domain

I have a few questions about transferring my existing wordpress.com blog (newstoneage.wordpress.com) to my self-hosted domain, newstoneage.com. My self-hosted domain is run using wordpress.org, and I have it set up as a static homepage with additional pages for contact info, blog and online store. Is there a way to move and import my wordpress.com blog to newstoneage.com/blog, or will importing the blog replace all the formatting I have set up already at newstoneage.com that keeps the front page static? I hope this makes sense. I am very new to the process of setting up websites.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry, here’s a hyperlink to newstoneage.com and newstoneage.com/blog, the page where I would like to move newstoneage.wordpress.com to.
Also, is it possible to keep the wordpress.com theme intact when I move it to my new domain, or will it be replaced by the theme I have instaled on wordpress.org? My wordpress.com blog currently runs on the “Chateau” theme, but my wordpress.org site is running on the “Blackbird” theme. Can two themes coexist somehow on separate pages?

Importing your WP.com blog won’t change ANY of the formatting of your WP.org blog. The export file only contains content, not formatting. You Export the blog from the Tools page of the dashboard, and Import on the WP.org blog from the Tools page there.

If you want the two to “coexist” then maybe what you want is domain mapping instead, and keep the hosting separate.

Thanks for the reply, raincoaster. Theme formatting issues aside, I’m still unclear as to whether I can import my wordpress.com blog to only the blog page of my wordpress.com site. I don’t want to do anything that will override my static home page or my other static pages. Thanks.

I want my blog, which is currently newstoneage.wordpress.com, to show up under the URL newstoneagela.com/blog.

“I’m still unclear as to whether I can import my wordpress.com blog to only the blog page of my wordpress.com site. ” Sorry, I meant to say “I’m still unclear as to whether I can import my wordpress.com blog to only the blog page of my wordpress.ORG site.”

http://www.newstoneagela.com/blog/ is a WordPress.ORG installed blog – you can export your blog from newstoneage.wordpress.com/ and import everything into newstoneagela.com/blog and things should work just fine

Thanks. One final question. Because I’m a little nervous about moving my blog, seeing as I haven’t done this before, is there a way to save my wordpress.com blog info in case I want to revert to the original?

Your WordPress.COM blog will stay until you delete something on it

    Suggestion –

    1) buy the site redirect upgrade – that will send traffic from newstoneage.wordpress.com/ to the new blog at http://www.newstoneagela.com/blog/ – then folks won’t get lost and search engines will also be sent there –

    2) then set newstoneage.wordpress.com to private so nobody can get to it and search engines will not see it

Before the move – make friends at WordPress.ORG in the support forum and make sure you have the Permalink structure on your new blog set correctly and also ask if you will need any kind of Redirect Plug-in for where you have your new site

    Good luck
