Moving over to .org with a premium theme

    Hello,

Very soon we will be looking to move over our blog to .org, however, we are using a Premium theme. I know that the theme cannot be transferred, so what would you recommend the best way of doing things to be? Revert back to an old theme and then transfer? If we do this we will lose a lot of our customisations and the navigation will be shot – this will be quite confusing for our users. Or should we go for some kind of redesign THEN redesign again in .org – doesn’t sound like a good option. Not sure what to do here.

    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hey there!

My suggestion would be to install the .org version of your theme on your self-hosted site. Luckily Delicious Magazine is also offered by its developer, Woo Themes, as a template you can purchase for a third-party hosted WordPress.org site.

I found their link for you:

You will still have to make customizations to your theme on the new server, but the job might not be as challenging, if you do it in that manner. If you’ve done a lot of CSS changes on your theme here at WordPress.com, you should copy/paste them into a file on your computer, so when you are ready, you can add them to your self-hosted version as well.

My advice is also is to keep the WordPress.com site live until you’ve finished customizing the WordPress.org settings. Then, export/import your content. Once that’s done, re-map your domain ( or transfer it ). This will create the most seamless transition for your readers.

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!
