Moving posts to different category

    Recently, I moved from Blogger using Import option. All my posts are under “Category1”. I’ve also created another category called “Category2”. I want to move all my posts to “Category2”. I didn’t find a way to do this in one shot for all posts (I know it can be done post by post but it is too complex work considering the number of posts). Is there a way to do this?
    If no, is there an option to select Category2 while importing from Blogger? Pls suggest.
    Thanks,
    Suresh

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    If you have no posts in the Category2 you could just delete it, then rename Category1 :)

    Thanks for the reply. I got it work! Now, I’ve some posts which are marked as Uncategorized. How do I move these posts to Category2? Pls suggest.

    You’ll need to edit them and change the category manually I’m afraid. You can edit posts from Posts > Edit in your dashboard.

    @itsmesuresh
    This is the wordpress.com support forum. here we post and answer questions pertaining to free blogs being free hosted by wordpress.com. The wordpress.com blog linked to your username is empty. Are you referring to another wordpress.com blog or not? I’m asking because if you are referring to a wordpress.org self hosted install then the forum for you to post to is here http://wordpress.org/support
    Here’s an excellent summary Staff have prepared to clarify the differences between the two http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Thanks hanni! If I need to do it for every post individually, it would be a tiresome work!

    Two ways to move all posts from Uncat to Cat2:

    a. Posts > Edit: tick “Post” box to select all posts on the screen, select Edit from Bulk Actions dropdown, click Apply, tick Category2, click Update Posts. Repeat for next screen.* Then Posts > Categories: delete Uncategorized.

    * To limit the number of times you’ll have to do this, click Screen Options and set a large number of Posts per Page.

    b (faster). Settings > Writing: set Category2 as your Default Post Category. Then Posts > Categories: delete Uncategorized. (Posts are automatically reassigned to the default category if their original category is deleted.)

    @panaghiotisadam, option ‘b’ was not possible as “uncategorized” was not listed under categories, so there was no way of deleting it.
    But, option ‘a’ worked for me and I must say, you saved my life! Thanks a lot for this tip!
