Moving site files to new folder
-
I host a site that the client wanted to update. She developed her new site using WP and put it in a subfolder of the one where her current site lives.
If I go to http://www.oldsite.com/subfolder, I can see the new site. But if I redirect the domain to that subfolder, I get server errors. Can anyone tell me why and how I might fix it?

This is a forum designed to support WordPress sites hosted here are WordPress.com. These sites run a very different version of WordPress than you are using and we have no access to subdirectories, etc.
You are using the version of WordPress supported at WordPress.org. Post your question at the forum on that site and/or search your topic in the codex there:
https://wordpress.org/support/I did a version of what you are describing a few years ago by creating my WordPress install in a subdirectory and in my case I wanted the main URL to be the top level. I found guidance using several documents in the codex including this which gives several scenarioshttps://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory. I think I used this option : https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory#Using_a_pre-existing_subdirectory_install
I also got some pointers by posting to the forums and locating some web articles before I took any action and was glad that I had done that.
