Moving subscribers from one url to another.
-
I recently moved all my site’s content from a WordPress.com to a WordPress.org site and I would like my followers to come along for the ride. I already purchased a site redirect tool, but I would also like my followers to be able to see new posts in their Reader. My previous url was http://www.randomnessessities.com. The new url is http://www.satnat.net.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I have moved your followers (and stats) from your WordPress.com blog to the one running Jetpack.
Anything else I can help with? Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hey there,
Thank you very much! I think I’m all set to start blogging on my new site. Have a great day!

Oh actually, I forgot, sorry…I also purchased a site redirect, but it doesn’t seem to be working, as I can still get to my old url (randomnessessities.com) online. Is there something I could do about that? (I would like to be able to access my WordPress.com dashboard for reference, but my visitors should be redirected to satnat.net automatically when they type the old url.

No problem. The redirect was almost (but not quite) configured. I have finalized that on my end, and while it may take a few hours to update that setting, soon you will have traffic redirecting as you should.
Let me know if you need assistance or if you have any questions.

Thanks very much once again. When I type in my old url though, I still land on my old page (randomnessessities.com) and not the new one (satnat.net)…and the old site is still getting a few views. Should I just wait a few more days to see if that changes?
Also, some of my followers asked if I would still appear in their Readers after having from WordPress.com (nothing personal, you guys are awesome;)). If I’d want new posts to appear in the reader of my WordPress.com followers, would it be a good idea to post something in my old WordPress.com account, which will automatically redirect to my new site’s homepage once the Redirect has taken effect?

Gotcha… looks like the redirect was not set up as the “Primary Domain” on your randomnessessities.com site. You can set this by going to Store>My Domains in your site’s Admin Dashboard.
I have already set it for you, as you can see here:

Hey Jerry,
Thanks again. The site redirect seems to work in the sense that when I type in the old site’s url, it no longer appears. But it’s being directed to this rather random Spanish site: http://www.grupotvcable.com/internet Is that supposed to be like that, cause I understood it was supposed to redirect to satnat.netAlso, do you know how and if my followers get notified on new posts I put up on my new self hosted site? They don’t appear in their reader, even though they’re listed as follower for satnat.net.

In checking things out, it appears that the problem is with satnet.net itself. If I visit it, I am redirected to the site you mention above.
So from that standpoint the redirect is sending traffic from randomnessessities.com to satnet.net as expected. You may need to double check your domain settings with Network Solutions, where the domain appears to be registered:

Totally my bad…I simply misspelled the domain I needed my old page to direct it to. Redid it and it works fine now.
Thank you once again for all the help. It’s greatly appreciated. Have a good weekend! -
