Moving subscribers to self hosted site via JetPack

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, as per instructions I am contacting support to have my followers and subscribers moved to my new self hosted site.

    My current site is http://planetsarah.com
    Self hosted site is http://thejuiceplanet.com

I have jetpack installed, activated and linked to wordpress.

I have one question, will my subscribers/followers still be subscribed to my original blog? I intend to keep that blog active but will be writing on a different topic.

    Regards

    Sarah

    Hi there,

You’re all sorted! I’ve migrated your users over and they should now get updates from your new blog!

    Have a great week.

    Thanks :)
Above my subscribe box on my new site it still says 2 subscribers and when I check my site stats in Jetpack it also only mentions 2?

There’s some sort of glitch going on where the totals are not matching the actual number of subscribers that you have. If you click through in your stats you’ll see the actual list of subscribers is accurate, but it is not totalling correctly. Our developers are already working on getting this sorted out, but in the mean time your subscribers will be notified of any posts that you make!

And looks like that glitch has been sorted out! It should be showing your correct count now.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Awesome, thanks so much :)

No problem! Hope you have a great day!

I can now see 43 followers mentioned in by sidebar, and when I go into stats it shows that I have 43 wp followers and 153 email subscribers.

So the subscribe widget only shows the wp followers then? Not all subscribers?

Is there one that shows all of them combined, because, you know, I like to show off how uber popular my site is, cough. :)

And whattaya know, now we have 196 … all present and accounted for. Thanks and have a great day amightywp Happiness Engineer :)

oops, I still have one more query. In my original request I asked if it were possible to copy my subscribers across to my new blog because I was keeping the old blog too, just separating topics. But it looks like they have been moved to the new blog and removed from the original one. Can this be rectified?

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh my! I’m so very sorry, I totally missed that question in your original message.

No, I’m afraid that you can’t duplicate users across two blogs. They haven’t opted in to follow two different blogs, so we can’t assume that they’ll want to receive the additional notifications.

If you’d like, I can transfer your followers back. Again, I’m so very sorry for just jumping in and moving people! That was entirely too hasty on my part.

No no, that’s totally okay. The majority of those subscribers came after I started blogging about juicing anyway, so I am sure they are quite happy being on the juice blog and not the old one which is free once more to blog about all sorts of things. I filled everyone in with a post about the move anyway, so if they want to come back to PlanetSarah and be subjected to my social rants they can always subscribe again.
    Thanks for you help :)

    Haha! That’s absolutely hilarious.

Well I’m glad that it works out for you this way. Thanks so much for being understanding!

Let me know if there’s anything that you need going forward.
