Moving subscribers to self-hosted WordPress
-
Hi WordPress Team!
I recently switched to self-hosting. I am using WordPress.org and have Jetpack installed, but I was informed by my hosting provider I would need your assistance in transferring my followers/subscribers to the new site. Can you please help me transfer my followers? I have something like 1800 at the moment.
Also, I have previously paid for a redirect to NomadGrad.com, but since that is now a different site, different template, and different content, is there a way to point people from my old HilaryBillings.wordpress.com site to NomadGrad? Or do I just put up a final post with a link to the new site on my HilaryBillings.wordpress.com page?
Thank you for the help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy,
I’m happy to transfer the users who have subscribed to your blog either by email or via the WordPress.com Reader.
I need to know 1) the WordPress.com site your followers are at now, 2) what site you want them moved to, and 3) do you have the Jetpack plugin installed and connected to your WordPress.com user account?
http://jetpack.me/Please keep in mind that while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before, WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site. You might want to post a notice on your old site about your upcoming move to keep your readers informed.
Let me know if you have any questions!

The domain mapping will redirect anyone visiting your old site to your new site. If you want to continue the redirect from WordPress.com, you can continue to pay for this upgrade.
If people had been used to typing in nomadgrad.com to get to your site, you can let the upgrade expire and make your WordPress.com site private just to avoid any Google indexing.

Hey there!
1. WordPress followers are currently on: HilaryBillings.Wordpress.com
2. I would like them moved to: NomadGrad.com
3. Yes, Jetpack has already been installed on the new site.
Thank you so much!! Please let me know if you need anything else!

I have transferred your WordPress.com subscribers and email followers as requested.
Please note it may take up to an hour for the stats to accurately reflect the transfer.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey there!
Thank you so much! Just one quick question… My e-mail subscribers (over 800) have been moved over as well as my 1000 + followers and are showing up on my stats page. However, on the widget button for jetpack, it only lists 2 subscribers if I click the ‘show total number of subscribers’ button. Can you help me with this?
-
I’d like to help, but it appears your site’s Jetpack connection is no longer active on your WordPress.com account. Without that connection, there’s nothing I can do to troubleshoot this issue.
Can you reenable your Jetpack connection, then enable that widget? Check it with the “show total number of subscribers button” first to see if the stats have fully updated.
With the large number of subscribers, it may have taken a bit longer for everything to transfer over to your new Jetpack blog ID properly.
Let me know if that works. If not, please keep the widget enabled (uncheck the subscriber totals if you choose) so we can see what is going on. We are not able to see your dashboard on a Jetpack site, so you need to have everything publicly enabled so we can help.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi there!
I have re-enabled Jetpack. I had disabled it temporarily because my site was having problems and I was trying to pinpoint where.
I know you said that you moved over my subscribers, but currently I only have 7. I previously had 800. I was hoping it may just take a little bit for it all to transfer but to this day I only have 7. They are also no longer on my old WordPress.com page. Can you please help me? Losing 800 subscribers and 1000+ followers is incredibly disconcerting!
Thank you so much!

The widget has been kept in hopes that you can see what’s going on.
Please let me know what you see or what you need from me in order to fix this. =) Thank you so much!

I did a little more research and it seems that the site you had linked when we performed the site transfer was “nomadgrad.com” and site you have connected now is “thenomadgrad.com” which is an entirely new site/domain. Since “thenomadgrad.com” has a different blog ID than “nomadgrad.com”, this is why your site stats seemed to be off – they still exist, just under the original blog ID.
Also, the blog ID for “nomadgrad.com” doesn’t exist in your WordPress.com dashboard because you had disconnected Jetpack. But rest assured, all the subscribers/followers are still there!
I have initiated another transfer from the “nomadgrad.com” blog ID to the “thenomadgrad.com” blog ID. Please note it may take another 24 hours for the stats to properly migrate and update in your dashboard.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for getting back to me. Both sites are connected (nomadgrad.com used to be my primary and is now my secondary) and should be linking to each other, so I’m not sure I fully understand why everything would be off.
But I appreciate you retransferring for me! And I will check back in a day or so and let you know how it goes. =)

Hi there!
I know I still have three hours to go until my full ’24 hour’ window has elapsed, but I just wanted to check in as it looks as I have somehow now only have two subscribers… And I haven’t gained any of my old followers.
Are they all moving over in one giant block? Or should I have started to see some movement by now? And is there any reason why I would have lost the five in a matter of the day (besides them unsubscribing?)
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi again,
Just re-checked my widget. It’s been 26 hours since you started the transfer and I now only have 2 subscribers.
Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
-
Upon further inspection, it looks like my widget only thinks I have 2 subscribers.
However, under my stats page, I now have my 1700 followers and 850 e-mail subscribers. But they’re obviously not talking to each other or not getting along.
Do you know how we can address this issue so both are on the same page? Or why one would think I have 850, but my subscription Jetpack widget button would only think I have 2?

Upon looking at your account in WordPress.com, you now have both “nomadgrad.com” and “thenomadgrad.com” linked with Jetpack.
Here are the links to your current followers (make sure you’re logged into WordPress.com first):
“nomadgrad.com” (blog ID #53154325): https://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/?blog=53154325&blog_subscribers&type=wpcom&unit=1
“thenomadgrad.com (blog ID #53772789): https://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/?blog=53772789&blog_subscribers&type=wpcom&unit=1
As you can see, “nomadgrad.com” doesn’t have anything listed since I transferred everything over to “thenomadgrad.com”. Whereas “thenomadgrad.com” has all 2,497 followers showing since the second transfer was to that site.
My question for you is: why do you have both domain names linked to Jetpack?
My guess with the widget is that you’re using the widget tied to blog ID #53154325. My recommendation is that we disconnect this account from your domain as there should be no stats being tracked for a domain that isn’t active – since “thenomadgrad.com” is your primary active domain. .
Does that make sense? Can you re-add the widget to your site? You can choose to not show the current # of followers if you want and I can see what ID is being used.
I hope that makes sense! Let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise I’ll wait to hear back from you regarding the widget.
Thanks!

Hi there!
That makes sense; I just don’t know how to fix it. I’m not very familiar with Jetpack on the back end.
I don’t know why I have both linked to Jetpack. I don’t remember tying the individual IDs. However it happened wasn’t intentional.
Can you walk me through how to fix this?
Currently, the number of followers is not listed, so you should be able to see what ID is being used.

That’s why I’m here! :)
I disconnected the site that wasn’t needed, so you should be set there. You might need to disconnect and reconnect your site to get the widgets to display the correct number of followers. Let me know if you still have trouble with that widget.
Happy blogging!

Hi there!
Thank you for doing that.
I have disconnected and reconnected Jetpack. It still is only showing 2 followers. Do I just need to give it some time? I will check back on Monday if it’s not up-to-date by then. =)

Thanks for your patience!
We did a few more checks on our end and I think it’s all sorted out now.
Can you clear your browser’s cache and cookies and let me know if the count properly updates? Here’s a handy reference on how to do clear your cache:

Hi there!
Thank YOU for your patience with me! I appreciate all of your hard work and help.
I followed the instructions, as per your recommendation, and it’s still coming up as 2 subscribers. =/
