Moving the site from wp.com to wp.org self hosted

Shouldn’t there be a way to back up the database and media gallery?
I mean all the export functions only allow text and meta stuff to be exported.
I don’t have full control over my content and I’m somewhat locked in in terms of media gallery at least.
If there was a simple way to make a FULL backup that would be great.

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.

If you don’t understand the difference, you may find this information helpful.

The export function will allow to to export all your posts and comments including media files and import them to your wordpress.org installation. There is no way to make a full backup per se. Upon import to your wordpress.org installation you will need to change the links to your media files, since they will still be pointing to files.username.wordpress.com, but all media content is usually located under wp-content/uploads in your wordpress.org installation.
