Moving to a wordpress unpaid domain
-
Hello,
I was recently charged for another year of my domain name, integratingdevelopment.com. I haven’t had time to blog in a long time but I don’t want to remove the blog. Could I move this blog to a unpaid (with wordpress) domain? Could I get a pro rata refund on the fee?
Thanks. I also host with bluehost. My friend set up the blog and I can’t remember whether I have to cancel that as well?
Thanks.
Best,
JenThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I saw on the support page that I can see my billing history under “Store” as well as change my credit card info, but I went to Store and cannot find billing history or my upgrades…

You can pick a free name here then export your blog and import it to here – cost = $ 0.00 forever (then you don’t need to pay Blue Host for the hosting)
However since you have a custom domain name – not good to let it go – domain registration only cost about $ 10.– / year depending on who your registrar is – keep the domain name – that is your blog Identity and letting someone else get it can be a major disaster – if you want to use the custom domain name you can map it here for $ 13.– / year – or you can just forward the domain name to your blog here for $ 0.– year but your identity will be diluted and old links won’t work but at least search traffic and old links will end up on the correct site
hope this helps a bit

I don’t know what your setup is at bluehost, but you really want to KEEP the domain name, because it’s pointing to your bluehost blog. If you cancel it, you will lose it; someone else will grab it. It seems like you’re managing it through WP.com and pointing it at your WP.org site, which is practical.

Hi thanks! $13/year is ok but I was recently charged $200 by wordpress on the credit card and I’m trying to figure out what those charges are. That is a bit steep for a blog I never write in! Any ideas? Again, I know there is “billing history” somewhere but I can’t seem to find it…

Billing history is at
Dashboard >> Store >> Billing History
Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades – for current active upgrades
Note – if you are not logged in with the account that purchased the upgrades you might not be able to see the upgrades

Thanks again- but when I go to the store, all I see are ads for upgrades. Not a link for billing history or account upgrades in sight. I’m definitely logged in- I see my name on the right hand upper corner. Am I still doing something wrong?
-
Oh i see. Same with billing history though? The charges show up as wordpress on my credit card statement.

Are you using your account here for the JetPack Stats and such?
If so I doubt there would be any charges for that –
I will flag this for the staff to help – but is there a chance you are confusing a charge for some sort of WordPress hosting account at Blue Host with a charge from WordPress.COM?
-
Auxclass- you are right, I’m sorry. My husband told me the charge was from WordPress but I double checked and it’s from bluehost. Can I move the domain to WP? (for $13/year?) Apparently now I’m being charged $14/month!

Yes, that sounds like normal hosting costs. You can move it and map it to WordPress.com for $13 a year, yes.
-
@jennyjchao – it looks like you figured out your charges on your own.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

your domain name needs to stay registered not at WordPress.COM – WordPress.COM is not equipped at this time to accept incoming domain name registration
But you can Map your domain to a blog here – $ 13.– / year as noted above – use the instructions below after you have moved the content from your old site to here
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
If you are using email with your current domain name – there are several options to keep it working – see below to start
