Moving to self-hosting

I want to register another/more domain name(s) and host my blog on my own ISP space. I would then move my blog data from WordPress.com via the Export/Import route (have tested this OK on a laptop running WAMP and WordPress module).
However, if I want to leave a message on a static page of my current WordPress blog, telling people of the new name/move, will WordPress.com HTML facilities allow me to use the “HTTP-EQUIV=REFRESH” metadata to redirect people to my new location, or do I merely put a message up telling people to click a redirection link.

Also, how will this affect search engines against my existing and new blog pages/posts?

    Thanks.

There is no automatic redirect. A link and static front page will do the trick. There’s something in the support docs about a slicker way, but I can’t for the life of me remember the title. Try searching on domain mapping.

When you get the new url, even if use here with domain mapping, your page rank goes back to 0, as it’s treated as a new blog.

I did a domain mapping and I am still on the top links with Google!
