Moving to WordPress – Help!

Hi all. My domain is with NameCheap, my website is currently with Wix, and my host is Google Workspace. To my understanding… I should build my new website through WordPress first, then transfer the domain over to WordPress. Is this correct? I don’t really care about moving the content from my current website with Wix, I can just copy paste. And then once I move my domain over to WordPress, that is when I would cancel my Wix subscription? I want to be sure my website doesn’t have any downtime (or the least amount of downtime). Does that sound correct?

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Also – does anything need to be done on my Google Workspace? In YouTube videos I’m seeing WordPress should be “installed” with your host. I dont see the option for this? I looked in apps and did not see WordPress…

    Hi there!

You can get your site set up here before switching your domain over!

When you sign up for a new site, we give you a free subdomain (*.wordpress.com or *.wpstaging.com for Business and eCommerce sites) that you can use to start building your new site.

Note that you will need a paid plan when you want to connect your domain or install plugins like WooCommerce or third-party themes to the site. You can compare the different plan levels here:

Regarding Google Workspace – do you already have an account with them and do you intend to keep your domain with NameCheap? If you’re keeping things as they are, you would just need to change your domain NS to WordPress.com instead of Wix without affecting your Google Workspace or your domain registration.

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions or need help choosing a plan.
