Moving to wordpress.org (for free!)
-
Hi,
I am exploring the possibility of moving to a self-hosted WordPress but am not sure how to go about it. I have just recently bought thechelseachronicle.com (£18/year, I was previously thechelseachronicle.wordpress.com) and I really do not want to spend any more money on any Happiness Engineer or hosting or whatever.
Given that, I am not sure if I actually can switch because I’m seeing all these things like Bluehost will cost some more money too, but is there any way I can switch, but still perhaps use a free host or anything (can I not still use the wordpress.com interface etc?) And how do I do it, if possible?
Thanks!

Why are you wanting to move to a self-hosted site? Is there functionality you need that you cannot access on WordPress.com?
I’m not aware of any other free hosting, unless you have a friend with a server who is willing to host your site, and in those situations you need to make sure they keep their server software and security up to date.
If you do wish to get your own hosting, you can export your content from WordPress.com (your posts, pages, media, comments) and import it into a self-hosted site at any time, and at no cost.

Jackie: I am not wanting to move, I was just sounding out my options. The initial interest stemmed from wanting to use plugins, which wordpress.com cannot feature, so I was curious about the possibility of wordpress.org (plugins especially useful for my site because it is a football site, so I was thinking of using plugins to show the current league tables/fixtures etc). I don’t think I shall now, but thank you for your info.
