Moving to WordPress.org with a your WordPress.com Account

Hello! I am a web developer new to using wordpress. I did not realize there was even a wordpress.org made to assist web developers in creating their own custom made themes. So basically I have already (1) created an account for wordpress, (2) installed wordpress using my hosting and ftp, (3) blog is brand new and no new content has been added yet so I do not have to worry about any blog content to be exported and re-imported.
My main goal is to take my wordpress.com account and start using wordpress.org because I have my own hosting and domain. I tried to log into wordpress.org using the same user // pass as my wordpress.com account but it does not recognize me. When I try to request my password it won’t send anything to my email address for my created account.
I have read so many forums but there is really no step by step guide on how to transition into using wordpress.org when you already have installed wordpress (using wordpress.com’s download to install) and have an account setup. There are articles on how to export your blog and import it to not loose created posts, etc. But there is nothing that shows you how to setup your hosting, ftp, and wordpress.com account to work the way wordpress.org does (allowing custom templates, ftp access to fully customize, etc.)
How do I get started using wordpress.org (after installing and creating an account from wordpress.com) to allow me to use my current hosting and ftp to work cohesively with my wordpress.org backend?
I’m super new to this process and would appreciate any guidance that can be offered, thanks!

Self-hosted wordpress blogs on third-party hosting services such as godaddy, bluehost, etc., are completely separate from wordpress.COM. There is no connection.
During the installation of the software at your self-hosted site, you would have been given the login information. You sign in there using that login information. The wordpress.COM login information will not work on the self-hosted blog.
Also for help with the self-hosted site, you have to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where the self-hosted version of wordpress is supported. There are key differences between the two so you need to be where they know the software you are using.

WordPress.COM and wordpress.ORG are completely separate sites. You will need to create ausername account at wordpress.ORG. Ok! I have read through all of your articles did the following:
I made a wp.org login and just in case of any conflicts I updated the files with wp.org’s download installation files on my ftp to re-install but it said it was already installed so when I go to login (http://mydomain.com/wp-login.php) it logs into my wp.com account’s backend (http://mydomain.wordpress.com/wp-admin/).
I have no clue how to access my backend to work with my current hosting server’s ftp to make a customized blog so I figure from here on out I will post my issue on wp.org and try to find my solutions there? Thanks for all of your help!

Did you point the nameservers for your domain name at godaddy?
Since you have not saw fit to provide the actual domain URL, we can’t do much checking for you.
http://mydomain.com does us zero good.

And another thing, the username and password you set up over at .ORG has nothing to do with your blog. Again, your blog is NOT connected to .ORG. You are only using the software from them. Your system is completely stand-alone. It is an island unto itself.

Do a “whois” search on your domain name and look to see where the nameservers are pointing. if they are pointing at the following then you need to change them to point to godaddy and again, godaddy should have provided you with that information.

ns3.wordpress.comIf you bought your domain name through wordpress.COM, this support document covers changing the nameservers for your domain to point it at another web host.

If you bought your domain through someone else, then you will have to change the nameservers at that registrar.

I’m so sorry, its not that I don’t see it fit, I’m just really slow at this since this is my first time setting up. This is my actual url that I am trying to log into http://www.followsydney.com/wp-login.php and I had at one point pointed the name servers to wordpress.com but found that if I have my own domain and hosting there should be no need to redirect nameservers to I put it back to the way it was. I guess since I am so new to this my main problem is probably correctly setting up my software at .org and my blog so that I can create a custom made theme. I thought I was on the right track following the articles I have been reading but somehow I am just clueless right now and hope to find out what I have to do next :(

I see your new self-hosted blog just fine at this URL: http://www.followsydney.com/ , so that means everything is working correctly.
At the bottom of that sidebar, you will see a widget titled “Meta” and in that widget is a “login” link. Use that login link and then use the password and username that you got when you installed the software over at the new web host.
One thing I would suggest before doing that though is to log out of wordpress.COM, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try logging into the new site.

Okay, I’m probably just really being stupid here and missing something but I logged out of wp.com and cleared my cookies and cache then went to http://www.followsydney.com/ and clicked on ‘login’ under ‘meta’ in my sidebar and it takes me to http://followsydney.wordpress.com/wp-login.php so I log into http://followsydney.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ but aren’t I suppose to be directed to something like http://followsydney.com/wp-admin/ to work with my current ftp server?

There is something messed up in the configuration when the site was set up because there is no way that the login link there should link back to wordpress.COM, which it does.
Go to this URL and try logging in.

Yea, when I go there and log in, it does, but it takes me to http://followsydney.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
What do you think I should do? Is there any way I can remove everything and reinstall from scratch? Or is there a more specific way in fixing this configuration issue?

Since you are talking about a self-hosted blog, ask over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where the self-hosted software is supported. They should be able to tell you how to fix the issue without having to uninstall and reinstall everything.
Tell them to look at the login link in the meta widget on your site and see that somehow it is pointing to wordpress.COM instead of your newly installed self-hosted blog.

You are welcome. I think it can be fixed by just editing the wp-config.php file via the cPanel.
