Moving Users from wordpress.org to wordpress.com

  We currently have a self-hosted site but want to move to a wordpress hosted site.

  Is there a way for us to move our users over also? We have multiple contributers but they don’t actually post their articles. They send us the articles through email and then we post them to the blog. We created all the accounts in wordpress.org so this will show the proper author. That way the author doesn’t have to actually use wordpress (some of them are not tech savvy).

  If there is not a way to bring over users, is there a way to show the name of an author of a post without them actually having a wordpress account?

  Hello there!

  Prior to importing your content I highly recommend that members of your blog register their own WordPress.com accounts and add them as authors on your new WordPress.com blog.

  That way, while importing content from your old blog, you get to assign authorship of posts to the correct users.

  There isn’t a way to do that unfortunately. However, as a workaround, you can create dummy WordPress.com accounts for them and add them as authors. Though this entails more work initially, it will give you an easier time assigning authorship going forward.

  Mentioning their name inside the article is certainly possible, although I would still go for my previous recommendation.
