Moving website to WordPress
-
I have a website and domain. I want to redesign the website and move it to WordPress, but keep the old site live while I work on the new one in WordPress. I’m not sure which options to choose in the set up process.

Hello Travelumapped,
Thanks for writing in!
This link about differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org would help you make a better choice:

You can read more about the WordPress plans with the link below:

I hope this helps.

Hi there @travelunmapped,
That is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a
.wordpress.comor a.home.blogsubdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site while your current site stays live. Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
map an existing domain:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or even creating a new one:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/
Hope this helps,

Thank so much! that’s a HUGE help! So i can just use any domain to start, build the site and then transfer?

That’s correct, you can use the free subdomain while you’re working on your site and then when you’re ready, connect your custom one :)
