MOVING WORDPRESS SELF HOST TO WORDPRESS.COM

I have a WordPress self hosted site that has been going for 13 years. It is quite large and have thousands of images. I am currently having a lot of downtime due to server overloads with burst hits on major news stories. I also have Google Income from the site i dont want to lose. How can I move all this and what would the cost be.

  • Hi mcpreporter, given that you’ve likely got plugins and outside code (like your google revenue makers) I’d recommend this:

    1) Get a Business Plan:
    https://wordpress.com/business

    2) Install All in One Migration and use it to move the site here

    3) When everything’s working well, go ahead and update the name servers.

As soon as you’ve bought the business plan, you’ll have direct access to support if you need it, via https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ .

    Hoping this helps!

Looking at the link you sent it looks like it wants me to set up a website asking for domain i want to use etc. I already have all that. Is there a way to just go into it buy the plan and get help and support for the move?

  • You will need to apply a custom domain to use a Business Plan, but you won’t need to direct the domain to the site yet.
